If you want to do your small part in helping the environment, riding an E-bike for short trips is an easy way to contribute. Leaving your SUV parked in the driveway while you run errands on your emissions free E-bike will help to reduce your carbon footprint. Being seen tooling around town on your E-bike will spark questions and conversation from curious folks, allowing you to promote awareness of electric powered vehicles.
E-bikes actually have less of an impact on the enviroment than a human powered bicycle. Mile for mile a human will use more energy than an Ebike. Consider where the human gets his energy from. The food he eats has to be farmed, processed, packaged, refrigerated, and transported.

Unfortunately many people unexpectedly find themselves without a driver's license, whether it be from accumulated driving offenses or a DUI. The license is gone, but the need to run your household, run errands, and get to work is still there. Some will opt to keep driving without a license because they think they have no choice. They may get away with it for a while but will eventually get caught. Fines and court costs can be expensive. If you are a habitual offender, the court system will do their best to ruin you. Other than walking, public transportation, or finding people to drive you around, E-bikes are your only legal option. They'll get you where you need to go and you can regain your independence.
Federal law states that an electric assist bicycle can legally be operated on public roadways by anyone 16 years of age or older without a drivers license, as long as the motor power rating doesn't exceed 750 watts and the E-bike doesn't exceed 20mph while not being pedaled. Its a shame most people in this situation are unaware of this smart option.

For exercise
E-bikes are a perfect way for both young and old to get some exercise and get back into bicycling. Although E-bikes can be ridden with motor power alone, they can also be pedaled. This allows the rider to use whatever amount of pedal input they are comfortable with. Many older folks may be reluctant to ride a bicycle for exercise because they feel they are just too old and don't have the strength and stamina to pedal a bicycle around the block. They might also have a fear of being over exerted and getting stranded somewhere with the bike. With an E-bike, the amount of effort put into the ride is all up to the rider. Lightly pedaling along with the motors power will allow you to pedal for many miles. Also if you run out of energy your E-bike will take you home. After a few weeks of this type of exercise, many folks will find it possible to use pedal power alone for a good part of their ride.
